About O'Connor

Profile: O'Connor covers an area of approximately 908 954 sq km from the Gibson Desert in the north to Albany in the south. The main locations include the City of Albany and the City of Kalgoorlie, and the regional centres of Bridgetown, Denmark, Esperance, Kojonup, Laverton, Leonora, Manjimup, Mount Barker, Ravensthorpe, Southern Cross, Wagin and Warburton.

O”Connor was named after Charles Yelverton O’Connor, (C.Y. O’Connor) 1843-1902.
Engineer in Chief of Western Australia, C.Y. O’Connor designed the Fremantle Harbour, as well as the pipeline which supplies Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields with water.

The Division of O’Connor was first contested in the 1980 Federal Election, and is one of three rural seats in Western Australia.

Elector enrolment: as at 14 December 2007-  93,719

Products and Industries: Grain, sheep, cattle, tree farming, fishing and aquaculture, vineyards and winemaking, gold, talc and mineral sands mining, farmstays and tourism.
